When I was first thinking about the idea for FinancialShelter.com I wasn’t sure how to really develop it. I wasn’t sure if a blog or website was more appropriate. Do I talk about weekly stuff like finance reform, financial literacy, stock market stuff, retirement planning, what? I have a FINRA Series 7, 66, and 31 so I guess I’m qualified, right? I suck at selling, but I’m good at explaining things like Variable Annuities, REITs, Mortgage Back Securities, and UITs. I’ve even been a consultant for people setting up Charitable Remainder Trusts and Charitable Lead Trusts.
But what was I to do to really help people? Not millionaires and billionaires, but people like you and me. People that still believed in the American Dream of actually owning their own home (not the bank owning it and you living there). The people that believed in giving back to their communities and who believe that they deserve to be debt free and financially secure so they can actually retire one day. People who believe that financial literacy should be taught from an early age so that those who come after us can learn from our mistakes and make better lives for themselves than we ever dreamed possible. Those are the people I want to help.
I hate the fact that I didn’t learn about credit and finances until I absolutely needed to. What if I could have learned that stuff when I was six or so? That would have given me twelve years to learn about credit, finances, debt, etc. I could have learned all the ins-and-outs of financial education and been a pro once I left high school. That’s what I want to do for my daughter. I want her to learn everything I know now when she’s young so that she’ll be prepared when she grows up.
So, I’ve decided to write. I’m going to write everything I can think of and share every trick I’ve come across. I promise that you’ll come away from this site with at least one or two ideas that will help change your life. Please comment on the information and let me know what you think.
